1. Configure the J!PHPList Component

a. Click on the JPHPlist Config Menu.

b. In the Control Panel, click on the configure button.

c. Enter the absolute path of the PHPlist installation on your server & click on suggest parameters. The component will then attempt to pull the rest of the settings from the Phplist config.php file.To help you find your PHPlist absolute path, we have printed the absolute path where your Joomla is installed here.

d. Enter the http access path (The one you use to access PHPlist from your browser.) . Note this should be the frontend url & not the admin one.

e. Select what you want to integrate with ( Joomla/ JomSocial/ Community Builder)

f. Click on Save.

g. In case you have not setup your PHPlist email throttling settings yet, we have made a nice GUI for you along with common settings for most hosts which you can use. To do this, click on the 'Setup Email' button. Note you can only do this when you have successfully configured J!PHPlist.

2. Enable the Plugins

Enable all the installed plugins.

3. Configure Field Mapping

Once your configuration is done, you need to configure the field mapping between Joomla/CB/JomSocial & PHPlist attributes. Note that attributes need to be pre created in PHPlist for this to work.

a. Select fields to Exclude

So that you do not need to map all the fields in CB/ JomSocial some of which can be fields you do not need to map, you can select all the fields to exclude from the mapping. Once done click on Update.

b. Map the fields

Now Map the fields by selecting a Joomla/CB/JomSocial field & the respective PHPlist attribute against that field. Once you are done, click on update.

4. Template Override : Only needed for Plain Joomla Integrations

In case you are integrating with Plain Joomla, You shall need to override your template to add/ override the default template registration page to show the lists at registration.

a. Automated Override

In case your default template does not have a 'com_user' registration override, then our component can automatically override the template for you. To complete the override, just click on the 'Override' Button .

b. Manual Override

In case such a view already exists, then the component shall show you instructions on how to change your existing override to show lists at registration.

5. Sync Users on Installation Very Important !

To run this component click on the 'Tools' menu.

This is a very important step that MUST be run after installing the component on your site. This step will allow you to sync all your existing users with PHPlist & subscribe them to any active lists in PHPlist.

a. Select the lists you wish to subscribe these users to.

b. Select whether you want them to receive HTML or Plain Text emails.

c. If you wish to send them confirmation emails ( This is to ensure Opt in during the first sync as well ) . Note these emails are not batched , so make sure your host will allow you to send out so many mails at a time before ticking this option.

d. Select Sync Batch size

Depending on your server settings, set this number so that the Syncing process is batched. Note that higher the number, faster will be the sync process. We have set this to 50 by default. This should work on most servers. We have tested with as high as 200 on our Rochen server & that has no issues.

5. Create Menu to PHPlist Preferences

In a plain Joomla configuration, this menu is the only way users can update their Newsletter preferences.

In case of a Community Builder/ JomSocial integration, this can also be done via the CB plugin / JomSocial plugin.
